I did my taxes.  I did my taxes last year, and the year before that too.  Turbo Tax makes it almost stupid-proof for me.  Prior to doing my own taxes, my dad always offered total them in to his “tax guy” and have them done.  I appreciated it.

The tax season after he passed away I had no idea what to do.  I did what any tax noob might do.  I took my papers to H&R Block.  I sat down with a nice lady who ultimately handed me a big bill to go with my even larger federal bill.

That was the one and only time I ever had to pay taxes.  Seriously.  Don’t do it guys, stay away from them.  I was charged about $250 for the service.  I ended up -$600 after all was done.

The past two years with Turbo Tax was so much easier.  They even saved my employers information.  I entered a couple numbers, went through all kinds of potential deductions, entered my address, bank account, drivers license and that was it.

It is simple, but not painless.

Doing taxes always bums me out.  Now, I know better.  I. KNOW. BETTER than to equate my worth with my income, but hot damn if it doesn’t bum me out every tax season!

It’s silly.  I spend so much time evaluating the worth or value of my being.  If you look at the big picture it’s something we do all the time.  When we shop for food, clothes, services.  Whittle it down past a product and that is what its about.  What is this worth to me compared to the value of who will profit from it?

Consider this; women don’t earn as much money in comparable or even the same fields as male counterparts.  Many women (guilty) often request lower than their worth. We’ve been beating this drum for decades.  Why?

There seems to be a general lack of esteem, confidence and sense of ‘space’ amongst women.  I too am guilty.

There is something I think all women can take from the current ‘body-positivity’ culture bombarding Instagram and social media.

When we lift ourselves up, we ought to try to lift all women.  When there are no women willing to work for less, or be less, or take up less space, we'll be headed in the right direction.
